Why do People want to Direct and Edit

I write screenplays and then want to direct them. when i've directed it i'd rather edit myself then get someone else to do it. this is because when i write i imagine my scenes and plan the film out in ym head.

and yes... that was an interesting yet useless fact :-)

The reason why its an advantage to edit your own footage is that you are familiar with all your own footage and don't have to hand it over to someone who then has to revue all the crap you have shot.It speeds things up and saves money.
I also really enjoy editing.

the reason i dont edit myself is to me editing is a real skill and its one i dont have and not planning to either

and i want the best for my films and when it comes to post i know im definetly not the best person to do that.

and also is shoot to edit such a great approach anyway ?

I can't believe anyone who wants no part in editing their own film can actually care about it. When I plan a film, I storyboard the whole thing and even before that, while writing the script, I have every edit in mind so that it relates to the shot, dialogue and pace of the scene. Of course these may change as I shoot or edit the piece but without doing it or being there myself I might as well have just shot the script without any planning. I may be exagerating but otheerwise you might as well be filming baywatch or neighbours, where the shot, pace, timing and structure is the same in every episode and in no way trys to reflect the mood of the scene through the use of imaginative direction or editing and the camera is merely stuck in front of the actors.
